The images reportedly show the Russian warship Moscow before sinking

New photos appear to show the doomed Russian Black Sea flagship Moscow burning moments before sinking during a Ukrainian missile attack.

The cruise missile cruiser – the largest ship ever deployed against Ukraine – can be seen in photos and videos that surfaced on Monday, leaning uncertainly to its left as thick smoke rises into the sky.

The images, which appeared on Monday, were reportedly taken on Thursday, a day after Kyiv said it had hit the ship near Odessa with Neptune rockets, according to The Times of London.

A senior U.S. defense official confirmed on Friday that at least one Ukrainian missile had hit Moscow – contrary to the Kremlin’s insistence that the 600-foot ship carrying nearly 500 sailors was damaged in a munitions fire.

Moscow says the ship sank in bad weather while being towed after the munitions fire.

The images of the burning warship, taken from a nearby ship, were first shared in a Telegram news app believed to be linked to Russian security agencies, the Telegraph reported.

His lifeboats appear to have been deployed.

Russia, meanwhile, released a video Saturday showing members of the doomed ship.

About 120 sailors and officers in uniform can be seen in the silent footage. The 26-second video was posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s Facebook page.

On Monday, the mother of a Moscow crew member who served as a cook said he had disappeared.

Irina Shkrebets told the Russian newspaper The Insider that she and her husband went to a hospital in Crimea in search of their son Yegor Shkrebets and saw about 200 sailors with severe burns, the Telegraph reported.

“I saw every child who got burned. I can’t describe how difficult it was, but I didn’t find my child, “the tortured mother told the paper. “There were 200 people (in the hospital), while there were more than 500 people on the cruiser. Where are the others? “

Another woman told Novaya Gazeta that her son had been hospitalized after the sinking and that dozens had died.

“My son was crying when he called me to say what he saw. It was horrible. “Obviously not all of them survived,” the woman told the newspaper, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“He said he would never have thought he would end up in such a mill in peacetime,” she added.

Meanwhile, a Kremlin propagandist tore apart the Russian fleet for the loss of the lauded ship.

Vladimir Solovyov, who hosts a popular TV show, said he was “outraged” by the loss of Moscow.

“When we say that, yes, it was old, yes, it was renovated, yes, this series of ships really had vulnerabilities, old injuries, I understand that,” the 58-year-old Solovyov was quoted as saying by The Times of London.

“Just explain to me: how the hell did you lose him?” Explain to me: how the hell did you end up in that part of the Black Sea? At that time? ”He said.

“I don’t care what happened, whether there were two Neptune rockets, as the Ukrainians say,” Solovyov said. “Since when is a warship afraid of a missile strike when it has equipment that protects against such strikes?”

He added: “What about your fire protection system? Why didn’t it work and the ship actually burned from the inside out?

According to Ukrainian reports, the captain of “Moscow” Anton Kuprin died in the sinking, but Russian media reported that he was seen in the photos published by the Ministry of Defense on Saturday.

Ukrainian media also claim that Igor Osipov, commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, was detained after the sinking, but this has not been confirmed by the Kremlin, according to The Times of London.
