The holiday getaway has begun and traffic is already on the highways in the north-west.
It is estimated that more than 21 million trips will be made by now until Easter Monday. In particular, the roads through Lancashire and Lake District are expected to be congested.
Several areas in the region are destined for severe congestion – including the M6 North. Drivers who want to avoid as much traffic as possible are urged to leave before 9 am or postpone their trip until 7.30 pm.
Road works and M6 closures that could affect people during the upcoming holiday include repairs to the Dane Bridge. Repairs to the southern roadway began in March on the M61 between junction 3 to the junction with the M60 road clockwise at junction 15. At the same time, work was carried out on the exit road at the southern exit junction M61 3.
