Residents of the Northwest Territories now have access to Novavax’s Nuvaxovid Covid-19 vaccine.
NWT health authorities, which announced plans to offer the vaccine earlier this month, said on Thursday that initial doses had already reached the area and were being offered to eligible residents.
The Novavax vaccine requires two doses, similar to other Covid-19 vaccines available in Northwest Transport, with a recommended interval of eight weeks.

Unlike Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19, Nuvaxovid is not an mRNA vaccine.
Health officials said the Novavax vaccine provided an alternative for NWT residents who could not or did not choose to receive the mRNA vaccine.
Nuvaxovid is approved in Canada for people 18 years of age and older who have not received any dose of other Covid-19 vaccines. The health authority of the NWT said that anyone who has had an allergic reaction to a dose of mRNA vaccine should talk to their doctor about the possibilities.
The Novavax Vaccine Clinic is scheduled for May 18 at Yellowknife’s Center Square Mall. You can book an appointment or find the dates of future Novavax clinics in the city in the online reservation system of the health authorities.

Outside of Yellowknife, residents interested in the Novavax vaccine should contact their health center or public health department to be placed on a callback list.
Health officials said the initial supply of the vaccine was limited, so deliveries to health centers outside Yellowknife would be made once applications were received from residents in those communities.
Each vial of Novavax contains 10 doses, the body said, which should be used within six hours of opening.
