A priest has been stabbed in a church in Nice, southern France, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Twitter on Sunday.
He said there was no danger to the priest’s life and added that police had arrested the attacker. The attack came when France voted in the second round of the presidential election.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrozi said in a separate Twitter message that the attacker was mentally unstable.
Conservative MP Eric Siotti, who represents the region, said on his Twitter account that a priest named Father Christophe had been stabbed several times at the Church of Saint-Pierre-d’Aren in Nice.
He said a nun was wounded in the arm while grabbing the assailant’s knife. “Extreme courage from Sister Marie-Claude, who intervened as the assailant who continued to stab Father Christoph.”
