A fierce spring storm is targeting parts of northwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for areas near Big Trout Lake, Pickle Lake and Sandy Lake with a forecast of up to 30 centimeters of snow and gusts of up to 70 km / h.

Snowstorms are expected to continue throughout the morning before easing to mid-afternoon vortices.

The Meteorological Agency recommends postponing any minor traffic, warning that heavy snow will reduce visibility to almost zero, sometimes on highways.

Public Safety Canada encourages people to have a ready-made emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first aid kit and a flashlight.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually tonight.
