  • A superyacht worker writes about their 20-year career in The Times of London.

  • They said that a superyacht owner likes to eat fresh lobster when on board.

An anonymous employee who spent 20 years in the superyacht industry told shocking eyebrows to The Times of London.

Among other things, they described how a wealthy yacht owner likes to eat fresh lobster while on board. However, his crew was never warned in advance when he would show up, so they prepared him every day, just in case, the worker said.

In recent weeks, amid the war with Ukraine, there have been stories of life aboard superyachts, especially rich Russian ships. Western sanctions against Russia are aimed in part at wealthy Russians and their luxury assets, including their yachts and private jets.

Many superyachts have a showy design due to the lavish taste of their owners. A superyacht master recently told the Financial Times that his wealthy Russian clients have asked for an interior design with rare tropical wood and expensive skins.

A captain of the superyacht, who has worked at sea for 15 years, told The Guardian that the wealthy Russians drove their staff aboard tests with a lie detector to prove they had kept information about the ship in secret. The captain said future employees must sign non-disclosure agreements to secure job interviews.
