May 8 (Reuters) – The US Senate will vote on legislation codifying abortion rights in law on Wednesday in response to an expired draft ruling showing the Supreme Court is ready to overturn its remarkable 1973 ruling. Roe v. Wade, leader of the Senate majority Chuck Schumer said Sunday.
“Every American will see how every senator behaves,” Sumer said during a news conference with state leaders in New York. Republicans “can’t get away anymore. Republicans have tried to get away.”
The Democrat said he would submit a closure on Monday, and the 100-seat chamber will vote on the bill on Wednesday.

Sumer called the draft decision an “abomination,” noting that the majority of Americans want to preserve the right to abortion and health care for women.
“The choice should not depend on a handful of right-wing judges. The choice should not be on a handful of right-wing politicians. This is a woman’s right. Clear and simple,” he said.
A draft ruling last week called for a majority in the country’s supreme court to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, a legal precedent guaranteeing access to abortion for Americans. Read more
