Cabinet of the President of Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his nation on Sunday, calling Ukrainians “the bravest people in the best country in the world.”
“We are nearing the end of another week,” Zelensky said in a speech he regularly delivered during Russia’s attack on the country. “Our struggle for freedom, for the state. Another week in which Ukraine survived, despite all Russia’s efforts to destroy us. We are fighting. We defend ourselves. We repel attacks. “
Zelensky said the nation was doing everything possible to win the war, and accused the Russian leadership of “lying” in trying to shift the blame.
“When cowardice grows, everything becomes a disaster,” he continued. “When people don’t have the courage to admit their mistakes and apologize, conform to reality and see that they are turning into monsters.”
The Ukrainian president said Russia had lost touch with reality by acting as aggressors, but blamed Ukraine for actions by Russian troops, including the Bucha killings, the rocket attack on Kramatorsk station and “every destroyed city and burned village.” ”
“They destroyed the lives of millions. “They have started a full-scale war and are behaving as if we are to blame,” Zelenski continued.
He added that Russia, fearing defeat, would launch more full-scale hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
“But we are ready,” the president said, promising Ukraine to ensure it has enough weapons and to demand tougher sanctions against Russia so that justice is done.
A moment before his address, Zelensky said he honored “18 defenders of Ukraine” – including members of Ukraine’s armed forces, the Special Communications Service and police – for their heroism. He also thanked the journalists who shared the truth about what was happening in the country.
“The truth will win and Ukraine will win,” Zelensky said. “That’s for sure. Glory to Ukraine. “
