Toronto based Jeopardy! phenom maintains a series of 16 wins in the game

Canadian danger! Fan Matea Roach is looking for his 17th consecutive victory in an episode aired on Wednesday night.

Roach, who grew up in Halifax, extended her remarkable participation in a television quiz show on Tuesday night.

It has the eighth longest series in the history of the quiz. To move up the list, the 23-year-old will need 19 wins to catch up with David Madden and Jason Zufranieri.

After so many victories, Roach proved that he could conquer dozens of clues from a quiz with ease.

But in addition to demonstrating superb buzzer skills, the Toronto-based phenomenon had to prepare for another challenge that could become more difficult with each victory: inventing compelling anecdotes for each TV episode.

These are the lesser known consequences of Jeopardy’s dominance! categories like Roach, whose 16 wins give her the longest winning streak on the show from a Canadian.

Danger! champion champion Jen Jennings holds the record for 74 consecutive victories in 2004.

“It’s getting hard,” Roach said when he called on the day of her 13th episode.

“I didn’t watch Ken run away as a kid because I was five or six years old when it happened, but I’m sure he really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to the end.”

These personal treats are usually presented after the first commercial break, when hosts Jennings or Maim Bialik offer each contestant a few minutes to tell the audience about themselves.

In previous episodes, Roach entertained them with stories about her first kiss, crashed her mother’s car in a parking lot and was spit on in a comedy show.

As long as she continues to win, she will need more stories.

Roach said her parents helped her generate material, but she has a strategy for deploying these personal treats for the best effect. When she first appeared, she gave the show “deliberately boring and general content.”

“I didn’t want to go on and play a game, and then my anecdote in that game is something that makes me feel bloated and tells a story about something that feels boastful,” she explained.

“But then after my first four shows we had a break in the recording and I remember sending an SMS to the producer who deals with the anecdotes of the contestants, and I said to myself, ‘I have to give you better material. Because the things I sent you the first time are really boring. And I promise I’m more interesting than that. “

Roach said the show provided contestants with a list of questions prompting them to inspire stories. The first was for her most valuable possession – her father’s denim jacket from the 80’s.

By Tuesday’s game, Roach had raised a total of $ 368,981.

She also won a place in the show’s Champions Tournament, which is set to air in the fall.
