The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says bird flu has been found on three other farms in western Canada – two in British Columbia and one in Saskatchewan.
A statement from the agency said the H5N1 strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza had been identified in all three flocks on Wednesday.
It says the Saskatchewan outbreak was in a commercial flock in the rural municipality of Bilden, south of Moose Jaw.
Outbreaks of BC include small herds in the backyard in northern Okanagan and central Okanagan.
All three farms have been quarantined and federal and provincial officials are taking other necessary measures to control the spread of the highly contagious disease.
The CFIA said the global bird flu epidemic is likely to be spread through contact between wild migratory birds and farmed flocks.
Cases in Canada have been reported in every province except Prince Edward Island.
