CBS News predicts that JD Vance won the Republican nomination for the Ohio Senate after rising to the lead when former President Donald Trump backed him.
Most Republicans vying for the Senate nomination have sought Trump’s support, including former Treasurer Josh Mandel, who is running as a pro-Trump politician.
Ohio has long been considered a perennial swinging state. But Trump won the state by eight points, and after Vance won the former president’s approval, his popularity grew. A Fox News poll published last week, following Trump’s approval, found that Vance led by 23 percent, more than twice the 11 percent he had recorded in a Fox News poll in early March.
Vance was once a critic of Trump, but won the approval of the former president by embracing Trump’s views on issues such as trade, immigration and criticism of major technology companies. Vance’s victory on Tuesday showed that Trump still has a significant influence on a significant number of Republican primary voters.
Vance’s victory is also a victory for billionaire Peter Thiel, who is becoming increasingly influential in conservative politics. Thiel gave at least $ 10 million to a super PAC supporting Vance, providing financial resources for pro-Vance ads when Vance’s opponents outnumbered him.

Admitting, Mandel said he looked forward to “voting for him in November and doing what I can to help him beat Tim Ryan”, who is expected to win the Democratic nomination.
“The stakes are too high for this country not to support the nominee,” Mandel said.
U.S. Sen. Matt Dolan, whose family owns the Cleveland Guardians, was the only leading candidate to say that President Biden legitimately won the 2020 election, and he was the only leading candidate who did not seek Trump’s approval. On Monday, he told CBS News that if Mandel or Vance won, “they will have to make some explanations” for their baseless allegations of stolen elections.
Incumbent Republican Gov. Mike DeWain won the GOP primary, CBS News also predicts shortly before 8:30 p.m. He will face Nan Weiley, the former mayor of Dayton, who won the Democratic nomination, according to CBS News.
Ohio’s Republican election chief, Secretary of State Frank Larose, also faced a major challenge. CBS News predicts that LaRose will win the Republican primary.
LaRose said in mid-November 2020 that it was “irresponsible” for Republicans to say the election was stolen without offering any evidence. But his rhetoric has changed since then, and the Ohio chief of staff tweeted in February that “President Trump is right in saying that voter fraud is a serious problem.” Larose won Trump’s approval in the race, although he was challenged by former US MP John Adams, who called President Biden’s victory “apparently illegitimate.”
On the part of Democrats, CBS News predicts that US Representative Tim Ryan will win the primary election in the Senate of the Democratic Party. Ryan from northeastern Ohio has the blessing of Democratic Sen. Sharod Brown and other major Democrats against his two rivals. Although he clearly won the primary, the road to victory in November is more difficult, as the National Democrats are likely to focus on changing seats in the states Mr Biden won – or at least they are more competitive. .
In Ohio’s 11th Congressional District, Sanders’ surrogate Nina Turner is battling incumbent MP Schontel Brown in a rematch after Brown defeated her in a special election last year. Both women are Democrats, and the Cleveland area is a safe blue spot, so the candidate who won the primary is likely to win in November. Turner received last-minute approval from Congresswoman Alexandria Okasiko-Cortez, although Brown was backed by US Representative Jim Clayburn and the Black Group in Congress.
The final day of the vote comes just hours after Politico released an expired draft opinion suggesting that the Supreme Court appears ready to overturn Rowe v. Wade. This is a development that has shocked the nation. While draft opinions may change before a final opinion is reached and Supreme Court judges can change their minds, the news may stimulate voters from both parties.
