Two people were taken to hospital after police said a train had collided with a vehicle in Winnipeg.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Winnipeg police said a train had collided with a vehicle near Bairdmore Boulevard at the Letellier junction.

A witness told CTV News that the train hit a vehicle on Bairdmore Boulevard, pushing it several hundred meters down the tracks to De Vos Road.

A spokesman for Winnipeg said two people in the vehicle were taken out and taken to hospital in an unstable condition.

Roads were closed in the area as police and CN investigated.

Police said drivers should expect traffic difficulties.
