KHARKIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian forces are pushing Russian troops out of a series of villages used to strike at the country’s second most populous city, Kharkiv, regaining strategic ground that could blunt Russia’s attempt to conquer the eastern Donbass region.
Ukraine’s recent successes north and northeast of Kharkiv build on previous successes in pushing Russian troops out of the city’s outskirts, a large industrial and transportation hub with a prewar population of 1.4 million.
