The North Carolina State Road Patrol is credited with saving lives by endangering his own life to prevent a suspected drunk driver from entering the Interstate and going the wrong way.
A North Carolina State Highway patrol said Private Cody Tao used his own patrol car as a barrier to stop a driver from accelerating the exit ramp in the wrong way. The dramatic crash was recorded on video by a video camera.

Police said Soldier Tao was called in to help with the chase in the early hours of April 8. Just as the soldier arrived, the chase took the I-40 ramp east to Rock Quarry Road in Wake County. The suspect started driving in the wrong direction on the ramp.
The video shows Trooper Thao deliberately driving his own car in the path of the suspected drunk driver to prevent him from entering the interstate on the wrong road. Surprisingly, the soldier was not injured.

“I could not be proud of Trp. Thao and his quick decision to stop the driver on the wrong path have undoubtedly saved his lives, “said Colonel Freddie L. Johnson Jr., commander of the North Carolina State Road Patrol, in a statement. “His willingness to put himself in danger is representative of the life-saving work that our members do every day. Putting others before us is not just a saying among the law enforcement profession, it is a reality of what we are doing to improve the communities it serves. ”
Soldier Tao told Fox 12 that he hadn’t even thought about how he could be seriously injured until then.
“After seeing the vehicle, I just decided to stop the chase right there,” Tao said. “That’s what we signed up for, that’s what we agreed to do.”
He added: “All the credit goes to the other soldiers who inspire me every day, especially here in Wake County.”

Tao has been on the North Carolina State Road Patrol for less than a year.
“Before, I actually worked at Tractor Supply,” he said. “I have no previous experience with law enforcement. I have always had the heart of a servant and I have always wanted to help people.”
The suspect, 26-year-old Joshua Ray Bibi, was arrested and charged with driving with a disability.
