Vancouver police say they are investigating after Gastown’s steam watch was damaged on Saturday night.
Images shared on social media on Saturday showed that the glass on one side of the watch was broken, police said. They work to determine if someone has intentionally damaged the watch.
A team of detectives was in Gastown on Sunday to gather evidence, and investigators are searching the area for witnesses and security personnel, police said.
In a statement, Vancouver City Hall said officials were guarding the area around the well-known tourist attraction and assessing the damage to determine next steps. The city said it would provide more information in the coming days.
The clock was built in 1977 as part of the city’s efforts to revive the historic district in the city center.
