Dramatic police footage captured the death of Casey Cole White, a murder suspect, in Indiana, and the body of prison guard mistress Vicki White was removed from their crashed car.
A 10-day nationwide search for Ms. White, a 56-year-old Alabama police officer, and White, a 75-year-old prisoner awaiting trial for murder, ended Monday night with a car chase and crash in Evansville. Mrs. White died from what the coroner described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and White was detained.
Because he was handcuffed, White said he told police to help his “wife” and insisted he not shoot her. The couple is said to have had a romantic relationship for about two years, but police say they were not married.
Ms. White’s last words, meanwhile, were revealed in a chilling call to 911, where she said “let’s go out and run” and accused White of wanting to stay “in a motel af ******” moments before apparently shot himself in the head.
The investigation into the ordeal is still ongoing as police face growing questions about how the fugitives escaped capture for more than a week.
