Victims of Abbotsford killings identified, investigators still unsure whether killing was accidental or deliberate

Homicide investigators have publicly identified the two people found dead at a home in Abbotsford on Monday as a couple in their 70s.

The Lower Continent Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Wednesday that the two victims were Arnold De Jong, 77, and his wife, Joan De Jong, 76.

The two were found dead in a home on block 33600 of Arcadian Way shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday. Abbotsford police found their deaths suspicious and IHIT was called in to investigate.

In a press release Wednesday, IHIT said its members were still gathering evidence, questioning witnesses and scheduling the case.

“At this stage, it is uncertain whether this was an accidental or deliberate incident,” the IHIT said in a statement.

“We share information with AbbyPD and follow many clues,” said a spokesman for IHIT Sgt. David Lee, in the issue.

“We ask anyone who has information about Arnold and Joan to call IHIT. Their information may be key. “
