War in Ukraine: Anna-Sofia Puzanova, daughter of a paramedic captured by Russia, meets Harry and Megan at Invictus Games | World news

The teenager met with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as she tried to persuade Russia to release her mother, a Ukrainian paramedic who had been captured four weeks ago.

Anna-Sofia Puzanova, who turns 19 on Monday, met Harry and Megan at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands, where her mother Julia Paevska had to compete.

She said Harry knew about her mother’s situation and the couple showed “a lot of support”.

Ms. Paevska, 52, is said to be a well-known paramedic and the founder and leader of Taira’s Angels, a voluntary evacuation medical unit that rescues the wounded, both military and civilian.

In Mariupol, the Angels of Taira rescued wounded soldiers and supported the local people.

Ms Puzanova said: “My mother was captured by Russian soldiers near Mariupol on March 16, a month ago.

“And now she’s probably in Russia. Honestly, I don’t know exactly where she is because we have no contact with her. I really miss her.”

Ms Puzanova said her mother was “a very kind and brave man”, adding: “She is a very strong woman. Her life mission is actually to help people.

Asked what she would say to her mother’s abductors, she said, “Bring my mother back to me.”

Ms. Puzanova was filmed during the Netflix documentary games called Heart Of Invictus, a series from Harry and Megan’s Archewell Productions, following people competing in the event.

Ukraine is among the countries expected to be the focus of the series, and Ms. Paevska has also been filmed before for the show.

She also said Harry wished her a happy birthday when she turned 19.

Harry founded Invictus Games to help rehabilitate wounded or sick soldiers and veterans around the world by challenging them to compete in Paralympic-like sporting events.
