War in Ukraine: US Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense to meet with President Zelensky later in Kyiv | World news

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will visit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv later today, accompanied by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The two are expected to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to discuss the country’s request for more weapons to repel the Russian invasion.

Mr Zelensky announced the visit on Saturday, saying: “I believe we will be able to get agreements from the United States or part of this armaments package of Ukraine that we agreed on earlier.

“In addition, we have strategic issues on security guarantees, which it is time to discuss in detail, because the United States will be one of those leaders of security countries for our country.

“Once we have (more weapons), if there are enough, believe me, we will immediately regain this or that territory that is temporarily occupied.”
