San Francisco police interviewed De Champ while he was in police custody. He was charged with two counts of crime – one for violating the border and the other for resisting a police investigation, for failing to comply with police orders to disembark or stop climbing.

Police say police were alerted to the man as he climbed the building around 9:21 p.m. Officers spotted him upstairs, wearing climbing gear.

There are closed streets nearby and authorities are asking people to stay away from the scene.

Officers tried to make contact with the climber as he climbed to get him out of the building safely, but instead surrounded him just as he arrived at the top.

Police say they are discouraging anyone from trying something like this because of the dangers to the person and others who could be involved in a possible rescue.
