West Kelowna RCMP investigating fatal collision on Highway 97 – West Kelowna News

RCMP in West Kelowna have confirmed that a Tuesday morning crash that closed Highway 97 in Peachland for several hours has killed one person.

Police say they were called to the crash at the intersection of Princeton Avenue at 2:30 a.m.

The collision was between a car and a semi-truck.

Police said the driver of the small car did not survive the collision.

RCMP Collision Analytics attended the scene and said the investigation is ongoing.

The West Kelowna RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or was in the area and has a dashcam recording of the collision and has not yet spoken to police to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768- 2880, citing file number 2022-42683.

UPDATE: 11:35 a.m

DriveBC reports that the scene has now been cleared of a serious collision on Highway 97 in Peachland.

Authorities have not yet released statements about the crash, which is believed to have involved a semi and an SUV.

The accident closed the highway for several hours, even before dawn.

A jeep has crashed off the road and a transport trailer with a damaged cover of a semi-bus can be seen lying on the side of the highway, drivers told Castanet.

“There’s a partial hood on a semi all messed up on the side of the road,” one reader said in an email.

Northbound traffic on the freeway has been activated as far as Greta Ranch. Southbound traffic is stopped at the foot of Drought Hill.

DriveBC advises motorists to monitor traffic control and expect delays.

Reader photos from the scene of the crash that closed Highway 97 in Peachland show a heavily damaged vehicle that appears to be an SUV.

The black vehicle has heavy damage on what appears to be the driver’s side, and the SUV is nose down in a ditch in some trees in images taken shortly after the crash.

UPDATE: 6:30am

Witnesses reported seeing a medical helicopter at the scene of a crash in Peachland that closed the 97 Freeway.

The helicopter was seen landing around 6 a.m. on Princeton Avenue, where the incident closed the highway in both directions.

The nature of the collision and the victims remain unknown for now.

An early morning crash has closed Interstate 97 in Peachland.

Details of the crash are not known at this time, but the highway remains closed at one of the major intersections in the Central Okanagan community.

DriveBC first reported the accident around 4:45 a.m. on Princeton Avenue.

It is not known if anyone was seriously injured in the accident, which closed the highway in both directions.

There is no detour and the scene is being investigated, DriveBC reports.
