What happens when the iPhone reaches its peak? By Marquez Brownlee

We saw this video by Marques Brownlee on YouTube, where he shares his thoughts on smartphones, are we at our peak or is it just a hiccup from a lack of chips? ”

The truth is that there is really only one specification of the iPhone 14 that I find really interesting at the moment. But first one question. Are we at the peak of the smartphone? I want to say that at the moment this is a classic question and the intestinal reaction is usually yes, we feel that we are.

But I’ve always said NO, we’re not at the peak of smartphones. As things objectively improve every year, they just get a little better over and over again. We continue to get more processing power, more memory, higher resolutions and more intelligence, and we are constantly getting new features. Recently, there are cameras under the displays and fingerprint readers under the screens, which are getting better. And we’ve only recently started getting phones folded in half.

So, if we define the peak smartphone as having reached the top, where the phones are no longer improving and are flat, then it is amazing that we are not there yet. But I think we all have the same feeling, which is clear that they have slowed down a lot from the beginning. The early smartphones of 2007 and 2009 made huge leaps. I got the first HD screen and then the first selfie camera and then the first eight K videos. Now we get small things.

Have fun. So now it’s mid-2022 and the iPhone 13 is eight months old. This means that there are already a bunch of rumors about the next iPhone that is coming right away. And just one of those rumors, one of those specs specs stands out is really interesting because it’s the same as last year. So, in the first place, just for FYI, it looks like the mini iPhone will disappear and will actually be replaced by a larger version of the base iPhone.

Details about the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series

And if I were a gambler, I would say that this will probably be the most popular. So, according to the claims, the range of iPhone 14 will be iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, then iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. And we also know that every year Apple has the challenge of trying to differentiate between Pro iPhones and non-Pro iPhones to try to give you reasons to spend the extra money on upgrades. We talked about price ladders before in a video. He linked it under the like button, if you haven’t seen it yet.

So with the iPhone 13 series, the whole range was pretty solid and there were a few differentiating factors for the extra money. The Pro iPhone had an extra telephoto camera plus LiDAR, it had stainless steel on the outside, a promotional display on the front, extra RAM, higher maximum memory and a few smaller features like ProRes, etc. So of course some of these features are enough to lure people to the more expensive Pro iPhone this year. So the iPhone 14 is rumored to be a slightly bigger difference between the regular iPhone and the iPhone Pro. So take all the same things I just talked about with last year’s phones. It is also rumored that the new Pro iPhone will receive this new pill-shaped cutout at the top for face identification and selfie camera. So finally removing the slit, even though it’s really just an aesthetic difference, gives you back some of those precious pixels and that’s it. And the Pro iPhone should get a new 48-megapixel high-end main camera, while the regular iPhone is still twelve. Now the Pro will probably still bend to twelve megapixels, but at least you can get more detail from it and potentially higher resolution video. But the most interesting rumor of all the potential things about the iPhone 14 is that only the Pro iPhone will get a chip upgrade.

About Bionic Chip

So the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get a sleek new A 16 Bionic chip. A non-Pro iPhone 14 and 14 Max will actually have the same one-year chip that is in the phone. I already use A 15 Bionic and this is fascinating to me for so many reasons. Where do I start? First, when have we ever seen two phones run year-round with exactly the same SoC, exactly the same chip and specs? I don’t think we’ve ever seen that. And I think just in principle, when I hear that, a lot of maniacs and tech people are going to have a pretty big reaction, I feel like I’m already seeing the comments in general. Why would Apple do this? How are they going to sell us essentially the same phone with a new name and try to pretend it’s something new? So greedy on their part, such a thing for Apple.

He added: “But I can also see all the defenses now. First of all, there is a shortage of chips and shock. No one is immune to this. But also, let’s be real for a second. If I give you an A 15 Bionic phone and another identical A 14 Bionic phone other than running a benchmark, how long will it take you to notice the difference? And it will take you years down to actually start to see the difference. And indeed, this is a huge feature of Apple’s super high-end chips, which is that they give you years of freedom. And so you may feel like you’re shortening these new iPhone 14 users to one year of free space without upgrading the chip. So, yes, both sides are clearly right. And it’s very interesting and a bit unprecedented to have a brand new flagship iPhone with the same exact chip as an old flagship iPhone. ”

It just never happened. But it makes a lot of sense. We saw that the A 15 Bionic is obviously a very powerful chip and more than enough for most normal people for a long time. In addition, it is very common for manufacturers to supply a slightly lower class chip in their lower class phone. So the high-end chip gets maybe the best Snapdragon Eight Gen One or Snapdragon 865 plus or whatever. And then their lower-end phone will have a lower-level chip. So for me I am left with one statement and one question. The statement is simply the fact that I say that we are not yet at the peak of smartphones. If Apple does that, that claim becomes a little weaker. Of course, the sending of the same flagship, although there are some rumors that there may be as two additional concerts on Ram along with 15 Bionic.

So it’s not exactly the same chip as last year. But you understand that it is very flat and I feel more than ever, as if we are at the peak of the smartphone. But my only question is how will Apple take the stage and talk about the iPhone 14? As if it’s not the same phone as the iPhone 13, is it? Unless I’m missing something and there are some really great features that I don’t see yet that aren’t talked about yet.

Apple’s strategy

He said: “Apple’s way is usually to praise their old phone all the time because it sells very well, but then sells it again under a new name at a higher price. I don’t know if this will work, but you know how they have this slide on stage every year, where once they reveal the price, they show the full range of all the different phones that sell in all the different price ranges. So here’s exactly what this slide looks like in 2021. I’m trying to figure out what the 2022 version will look like. So we already have the new iPhone Se with 5G. These are 429 slots at the bottom. This is good. Then I guess we’ll have the new iPhone 14. Let’s say it starts at $ 699 and the 14 Pro starts at $ 999. They can still sell the iPhone 12 with the older specs for $ 499, but then keep the iPhone 13 at around $ 599? ”

He asked if they could do that? I mean, what’s the difference here? What is the difference? For $ 100 extra, you should never get an iPhone 14, right? What will be the explanation of the scene?

Are there any new exclusive iPhone 14 software features in the pipeline, even though they have basically the same specifications? You may get another year of software updates of 13. Maybe these two extra Ram gigs will give you a little better space and reliability for the future, but that in itself doesn’t seem to cost $ 100. So this is going to be a really interesting detail to look out for.

He ended the video with a question to the audience, who asked: tell me what you think about the way the iPhone 14 is designed, especially compared to the iPhone 13 and how they can be distinguished from some new colors.
