Where Jurgen Klopp will qualify in the history of Liverpool with the extension of the contract – Liverpool FC

Liverpool have a long line of famous managers throughout their history and so far only three have seen them overshadow Anfield’s decade.

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to sign a new contract and extend his stay in Liverpool at least until 2026 is the latest incredible work of the club.

The 54-year-old footballer has long been expected to say goodbye in 2024 after nearly nine years at Anfield, but now, revived by a desire to create a dynasty, he will soon go nowhere.

The new deal is to keep Klopp in Liverpool for another four years, until which time he will be at the top for 10 years and eight months.

Arriving in 2015, this is a significant investment on time and promises many successful years ahead for the Reds.

Remarkably, the implementation of the new contract will see Klopp overtake Bob Paisley as Liverpool’s fourth longest-serving manager, with the former boss stepping down after eight years and 11 trophy-laden months.

But if Klopp wants to even try to equalize Bill Shankly or George Kay, he will have to sign a contract at least until 2029 – at which point the German will be 62 years old.

The legendary Shankly chaired Anfield for 14 years and seven months between 1959 and 1974, a time when he built the club into a bastion of invincibility and made possible what we see today.

But he is not the longest-serving manager in Liverpool’s history, it’s an honor from Tom Watson – some distance above Shankly!

From 1896 to 1915, for more than 18 years, Watson was the man in charge and directed Liverpool to their first First Division title in 1900/01, before coinciding with the feat of 1905/06.

Do you think Jürgen will be 18 at Anfield?
