A woman who was stabbed to death in her own home in the coastal village of Whitehead has been identified by PSNI as former nurse Alison Nelson.
The 64-year-old was attacked around tea on Saturday in her own home, which is near the train station in the village.
Police have confirmed that a murder investigation is currently underway and has arrested a 60-year-old man.
It is alleged that the detainee knew the victim.
As detectives gather Alison’s latest moves, her family is immersed in mourning.
Detective Inspector Foreman said: “We received a report at around 6:10 p.m. that a woman had been stabbed in a property on the Victoria Avenue area in Whitehead.
“Employees were present, along with colleagues from the Emergency Service.
“Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on the spot. A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held by police.
“Again, I would urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact us at 101, citing reference number 1502 of 16/04/22.”

The former health worker is the latest of several women to have died violently in Northern Ireland in recent years.
Many woke up on Easter only when they heard the news of a murder on their doorstep.
A resident told Sunday Life: “I have lived in Whitehead since 1972 and this is the first such incident I have heard of. It’s just awful, especially during Easter. God love her family.
In addition to police arriving at the scene on Saturday night, paramedics and an air ambulance were called.
But nothing could be done to save the victim, a popular member of the Whitehead community.

Ulster Unionist leader Doug Beatty described the death as “such terrible news for Easter Sunday.”
Alliance’s Stuart Dixon told Sunday Life: “It’s a holiday weekend, a lot of people have been outside, socializing, enjoying the good weather today. For many, this is the first time they have gone out since the pandemic.
“And now to hear about these tragic circumstances here in Whitehead is just heartbreaking.
“My heart is with the family and friends of the person and I would encourage anyone who has any information about the circumstances to pass it on to PSNI.”
DUP’s David Hildic said: “People were shocked and horrified by the time the news came out. All our thoughts are with the family of the poor victim. Whitehead is not on the map for such things, it is usually a quiet, rural, seaside village. It’s just awful. “
