Winners and losers in the 2022 NFL Draft: Jets, Ravens, Eagles get the best draws, a rough road for the Patriots, Baker Mayfield

The 2022 NFL Draft was over and there was one for the books. In Las Vegas, the NFL draft records were broken, many wide-ranging stars were swapped in the first round, and quarterbacks suffered historic setbacks in the third round. There were also players who were selected in the fourth round!

There were winners and losers. Some front offices are celebrating their drafts, while other players are already more nervous about their place in the depth rankings thanks to their team’s deals this weekend. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s break down our winners and losers from the NFL 2022 draft (see our tool for tracking every single choice, along with ratings and analysis here).

General Manager Joe Douglas shattered the project. The Jets landed cornerback Ahmad “Sos” Gardner at No. 4 overall and then Ohio’s broad-based successor Gareth Wilson at No. 10. They were seen by many as top players in their respective positions and both will be boys with immediate effect. However, the Jets did not end there, as they returned to the first round to select the missing Florida state Jermaine Johnson. This was a player model that the fake draft experts had in the top 10, and some in the top five. As he continued his mysterious fall on the boards, the Jets couldn’t help but push at the end of the round to pick him up. New York scored three top 10 players on Day 1!

The Jets made several other intriguing choices. They took former Iowa quarterback Brice Hall in the second round, who may be the No. 1 quarterback in that class, and then Jeremy Rockert in the third round, who is considered by some to be the best end of Ohio in this class. draft class.

Loser: Quarterback rookies

Most fake drafts had at least two quarterbacks selected in the first round. However, when Thursday night came, we saw only one quarterback selected in the first round with Kenny Pickett for the Pittsburgh Steelers at number 20 overall. The next quarterback came in the third round at number 74 overall, as Desmond Reeder went to Atlanta Falcons. A dozen choices later, Malik Willis went to Tennessee Titans, and then Matt Coral was selected by the Carolina Panthers.

To put it all into perspective, there was only one quarterback taken in the first 50 elections. This is only the sixth time in the overall era of the draft that is taking place, and for the first time since 2000. There have been 54 selections since the first quarterback was selected, making it the second most selected among the first two quarterbacks selected. The record was set in 1975, when 63 choices were made from the first to the second caller. A total of nine defenders were selected, with five coming on Day 3.

Winner: University of Georgia

The year of Dawg. Georgia won the college football championship last season thanks to one of the best defenses in the history of college football and they were well represented in the NFL draft. The UGA had five defensive players selected in the first round – including No. 1 as Travon Walker’s overall pick – the most of a school in NFL history. Two more defenders were selected in the third round, setting a new record with the most defenders selected by a school in the first three rounds of each NFL draft.

A total of 15 players from Georgia were selected in the NFL 2022 draft. This is also a record for the NFL draft.

It was thought that Maybe Mayfield could be moved during the NFL draft, depending on which teams in need of a quarterback missed out on prospects. The Panthers were considered the favorite to land Mayfield, as NFL media reported that they and the Cleveland Browns continued to discuss a potential exchange. Instead of trading for Mayfield, the Panthers swapped in the third round and chose former Ole Miss Matt Coral No. 94 as their overall pick.

Mayfield have been waiting for an exchange for more than a month since the Browns won the Deshaun Watson lottery earlier this off-season. Mayfield owes $ 18.85 million in 2022, and Brown may have already realized that they will have to eat some of that money. Then there is the issue of compensation.

Who will want Mayfield? Maybe the Detroit Lions?

The Eagles were a huge winner in the NFL 2022 draft. On the night of the opening, they traded for the Titan star, broad AJ Brown, and gave him a four-year, $ 100 million deal that includes a guaranteed $ 57 million for ESPN. The Eagles were a team expected to be in the wide-ranging mix in the first round, but after exchanging for Brown, Howie Roseman turned his attention to defense, drawing a 6-foot-6,340-pound defensive strike from Jordan Davis. of Georgia. It will be almost impossible to play football against him and Fletcher Cox.

Philly didn’t end there. In the second round, he stole Nebraska’s offensive Kam Jürgens, who is listed as Jason’s successor at one point. Then the Eagles recorded what could be the theft of the draft in the midfielder of Georgia Nakobe Dean. The talent from the first round dropped to number 83 overall due to reports of chest strain, which some say may require surgery. However, he is expected to be a full participant in the OTA next week!

Every year there are talented prospects who fall for really stupid reasons. There’s a good chance the teams will be kicked out for betraying Dean several times.

It was a difficult weekend for Tanehil. He not only lost his No. 1 broad successor to AJ Brown, but then Tennessee chose his potential replacement at Malik Willis. The Liberty signal was chosen by Titans with a total of № 86, to the delight of Titans fans. Not only is Willis considered the quarterback in this class with the greatest mood, but Tanehil is not exactly a favorite of Nashville fans at the moment. He threw three interceptions at the loss of the Titans in the playoffs by Cincinnati Bengals, undermining the historic performance of defending the Titans. Tanehil is now under some pressure, which we hope is good for Tennessee.

The Ravens obviously had one of the best drafts, and that’s because they more often took the best player available. Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton may be the best player in the draft, Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum is a legitimate talent in the first round, and David Ojabo is the first player if he does not suffer a torn Achilles. He may miss the rookie season, but it’s worth it if he’s a star for many years to come.

The Ravens scored well not only for the first few elections. Fourth-round pick Daniel Faalele is an offensive 6-foot-and-eight offshoot game that could have a bright future in the league, cornerback Jaylin Armor-Davis was named “A +” and Baltimore then took two secret ends from Charlie Collar of the state. Iowa and Isaiah Probably from coastal Carolina. This sounds like a strange strategy, but Likely is a versatile pass hunter who will probably line up in several different places.

I don’t think the Ravens had a No. 1 draft on any team, but it was certainly one of the best.

The Patriots don’t care about your fake drafts or what you think of their class, which is somewhat respectable. They shocked the world in the first round by taking Chatanuga Cole Strange’s offensive guard number 29 as the overall pick. In the second round, New England chose Baylor’s speedster WR Tyquan Thornton – which was probably the Pats’ best choice in the draft, but it is believed that he could have been taken in the third round instead.

Another interesting choice was that of quarterback Bailey Zape. There’s nothing wrong with making a quarterback, and Zape is a very interesting prospect, but his draft in the fourth round just seemed rich.

Overall, the off-season was disappointing for the Chiefs, as they traded Tyreek Hill for the Miami Dolphins and watched all of their opponents improve dramatically. However, they had one of the best drafts.

Kansas City met two obvious needs in the first round with cornerback Trent McDuffy of Washington, and Purdue passed George Carlaftis, then landed Patrick Mahomes’ newest successor at Sky Moore in Western Michigan in Round 2. Although not a hair’s breadth 5 10 feet, Moore is an incredibly fast and legitimate slot playmaker. Some saw him as a legitimate talent from the first round.

All five of Day 3 bosses received a B grade or higher from CBS Sports NFL drafting expert Chris Trapaso. Kansas City have drawn two more big cornerbacks from Joshua Williams of Fayetteville and Jaylan Watson of Washington, as well as Kentucky offensive player Darian Kinnard, who has very good points. To complete the draft, Chiefs chose runaway quarterback Isaih Pacheco and another safe at Marshall’s Nazeeh Johnson.

The Chiefs’ class will be led by the first three selections, but they did a great job hitting the defense – especially the minor ones. It was a great extraction.

Winner: Punters

A total of four players were drafted into the NFL 2022! According to John Brich of CBS Sports, this is only the second time since 2000 that four players have been selected on the same project.

Ravens (Round 4, selection 130): Jordan Stout, Penn StateBuccaneers (Round 4, selection 133): Jake Camarda, GeorgiaBills (Round 6, selection 180): Matt Araisa, San Diego State Bears (Round 7) , selection 255): Trenton Gill, North Carolina

Shockingly, Araiza – known as “Punt God” – was not even one of the first two offboard.

This was probably the best moment of the NFL draft. When we go through the first round, various team legends, current players and fans get the opportunity to announce some of the selected ones. For the Vikings, former defender Ed Marinaro was chosen to announce the total number 42. What happened next was incredible.

Marinaro began to wander on the podium and a producer actually had to leave …
