Short but heavy snowfalls will continue to affect the region this afternoon and evening
Environment Canada has issued recommendations for winter travel for our region, including Sault Ste. Marie, St. Joseph Island and Surchmont.
Heavy snow can reduce visibility and cause dangerous driving conditions in some areas this afternoon.

Time recommendations in effect for: • Sault Ste. Marie – the island of St. Joseph
Winter weather recommendation in effect this afternoon.
Dangers: Sudden decrease in visibility due to heavy snow. Snow, with precipitation up to 5 cm until tonight.
Time: this afternoon.
Discussion: Short but heavy snowfalls will continue to affect the region this afternoon and evening. A sharp decline in visibility is expected.
Drivers must expect dangerous winter driving conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Traveling can be dangerous due to sudden changes in weather. Be especially careful when walking or driving in the affected areas. Slow down on slippery conditions. Watch for the rear lights ahead and maintain a safe distance. Visibility can be suddenly reduced, sometimes in heavy snow.

Drivers must expect dangerous winter driving conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Bad weather conditions can contribute to delays in transportation. Surfaces such as highways, roads, footpaths and car parks can become difficult to navigate due to the accumulation of snow. Road closures are possible.
