Young Thug’s lawyers have filed an urgent bail application, calling his home “inhuman”, “painful”

ATLANA – Young Thug’s lawyers have filed an urgent request for a bail hearing or a “more humane / non-torturous home in custody,” saying he has been wrongfully charged.

The request was filed Friday in Fulton County Supreme Court.

The rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was arrested on Monday at a home in Buckhead on a large-scale indictment, which listed the names of 27 other people. Fulton County Attorney Fanny Willis said the people named in the indictment are members of the Young Slime Life gang, which has been involved in criminal activity in the city since 2012.

The 88-page indictment provides a detailed account of various crimes involving alleged YSL members and documents social media posts and rap texts that cite YSL.

Williams is accused of violating the act of state organizations influenced by racketeers and corrupt organizations and participating in a criminal street gang.

The rapper was originally sentenced to Fulton County Jail, but moved to Cobb County for his safety.

In the new request, lawyers called the conditions in which Williams was placed “inhuman”, saying that he was kept in isolation in a cement room without windows, “as if he were a forgotten man alone in the world.”

“Mr. Williams is kept in a small cement area. A lamp is on all the time. He gets inedible food,” Williams’ lawyer Brian Steele told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Win. “He has no contact with any human being except his advice. “

Lawyers said that the lights were on 24 hours a day, which did not allow the rapper to sleep and that he did not have access to any media. They said he was not allowed to exercise, bathe or have any human interaction other than his advisor.

The Cobb County Sheriff said he was being held in administrative isolation for his own safety and the lights remain on so officers can check and make sure he’s okay.

“He will be acquitted, but that’s wrong,” Steele said. “He was treated in the same way as the man next to him, who was arrested, tried and convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

Williams applied for a bond on Tuesday, but has not yet received a date.

“The failure to schedule a bail hearing for this innocent man, combined with the inhuman and unconstitutional treatment of Mr Williams, requires this honorable court to provide bail until a hearing can take place,” lawyers wrote, alternatively requesting “Williams is not to be kept in isolation and to be given access to televisions, windows, showers and other environments that detainees usually receive in the pre-trial process.”

Steele said his client needs to be kept in better shape.

In the new request, lawyers said Young Thug was simply exercising his freedom of speech and doing his job, but that “the state seeks to incite criminal behavior by quoting lyrics and social media posts.”

They claim that Williams’ arrest violates his rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments, which protect freedom of speech and expression.

The proposal also challenges the district attorney’s allegations that Williams once rented a car that was later used for murder.

“There are no allegations from the grand jury that Mr. Williams knew about this crime, he knew that this rented vehicle would be used for any alleged crime, or that Mr. Williams was a party to this alleged crime,” lawyers said. .

Lawyers say Williams should be given bail because he has not been convicted of a crime, risk of absconding, danger to the community, risk of committing a crime while on bail or risking bribing someone before trial.

The lawyers wrote:

The Bible, the Torah, the Qur’an, the Vedas and all such texts of mankind, as well as any conscious person, would understand that the placement of a human being (in this case Mr. Williams) under these conditions in America, the original Colony, when there is no previous record for a crime, denies any allegations of wrongdoing, has never been anything other than cooperation, lawful and peaceful with the authorities and is considered innocent, wrongful, illegal and unscrupulous. Mr Williams has been illegally and severely ill-treated by the authorities.
