The struggle is constantly changing, adapting and evolving.
The industry has been like this forever, and that’s its beauty. Seismic changes such as Vince McMahon’s resignation from King Of The Ring’s planned victory in Triple H in 1996 (thus paving the way for Steve Austin’s first real push) and WCW, which unthinkably turned Hulk Hogan’s heel that summer, are well documented, but … what about those moments with a sneaky butterfly effect?
All 10 examples given here will be obvious some perceptive fans there, and yet they all have one thing in common: the history of WWE, WCW, AEW and TNA has been completely reshaped by them. It may not have been clear at the time they happened, but the future is redrawn before your eyes.
Sometimes even the people involved did not see it for themselves.
The layoffs of humble managers have led to revolutionary promotional startups elsewhere, Vince McMahon’s behind-the-scenes anger has sparked a hunger for something outside the WWE in the company’s legend, failed returns have inspired phrases for millions of dollars.
These are the moments in the professional struggle, much more important than anyone realizes at the time.
That. damn it. Drink.
“What ?!” tortures hundreds of fighters who are innocently trying to make their way through the wordy scenarios of WWE since 2001. It’s a constant inconvenience and a kind of trolling phrase that makes people roll their eyes or angrily click on live crowds to listen even 20+ years later.
Surprisingly, it all started because Christian didn’t answer his phone. Steve Austin was calling his friend, but now the AEW star was not picking up or answering messages. So to be * ck, ‘Stone Cold’ left a long voicemail that included a lot: “What? What? WHAT !?” jokes both got kicked out of it.
Then a monster was born, and that brought Austin another big chunk of money from selling goods when he printed that lonely word on a T-shirt. Who would have known that Christian … not picking up his phone would lead to millions of dollars and countless annoyed workers in WWE, AEW and beyond?
