Newfoundland Power and NL Hydro have announced 19 new electric vehicle charging locations across the province.
The announcement was made at Paradise Town Hall through takeCHARGE, an initiative by the two companies to expand the use of electric vehicles.
The sites will feature two different chargers, a fast charger that can provide 100 km of range in 20 minutes for $15 per hour, and a tier two charger that provides 30 km per hour for $1.50 per hour.
The chargers will be placed across the province, including the West Coast, Northern Peninsula, Central, Burin Peninsula and rural Avalon, as well as Labrador.
NL Hydro President and CEO Jennifer Williams says the expansion will help remove barriers to purchasing an electric vehicle.
She says most charging takes place at home, but most people looking for longer trips need fast chargers in the countryside to navigate the countryside safely and quickly.
