2 killed, 5 injured after shooting reported near Peck Park Auto Show in San Pedro

SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Two people were killed and five were injured when a shooting erupted in a San Pedro park Sunday, police said.

Of the seven who were struck by gunfire, four were in critical condition as they were transported to local hospitals, police said. Two of those four were in full cardiac arrest while being transported, said LAPD Cmdr. Jay Mastic.

Authorities later said two people had died.

The incident was reported at or near a car show in Peck Park on N. Western Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Mastic said that although the shooting was near the show, where hundreds of people had gathered, it was unclear whether it happened at the show itself.

Police say the incident started as an argument between two people in the baseball diamond area of the park. They said this is not considered an active shooter situation.

Police are investigating the possibility that there was more than one gunman who exchanged gunfire.

Witnesses said hundreds of people gathered for the car show and other activities around the park. When gunfire broke out, people immediately fled the scene in terror.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said four men and three women were taken to local hospitals.

Police cordoned off the area around the park as they investigated the shooting.
