20-30 mm of rainfall is expected on Monday for flooded southern Manitoba

After a beautifully warm and sunny weekend, the forecast for Monday looks bleak.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather bulletin for much of southern Manitoba as rainfall is expected on Monday.

A low-pressure system moving north of North and South Dakota is projected to bring 20 to 30 millimeters of rain to parts of southern Manitoba that are still dealing with saturated soil and fears of flooding, the meteorological agency said.

Rain is expected to start on Monday morning and decrease tonight. There is also the potential for thunderstorms, so rainfall may be higher in certain areas.

There is also the potential for more showers during the week, but they will be much less common than the system passing through the province on Monday, says Environment Canada.

The signal covers the following areas:

  • Arborg, Hekla, Fisher River, Gipsomville and Ashern.
  • Behrens River, Little Grand Rapids, Blood Vein and Atticaca.
