3 killed, 1 wounded after being stabbed and reacted by police in South Ottawa

Three people were killed after multiple stabbings and the ensuing police response south of Ottawa’s core late Monday night.

Ottawa police say they were called to a residence on Anoka Street near Grasmer Crescent, just south of Heron Road, around 10:30 p.m., for “stabbing reports with multiple casualties.”

Two people were found dead and a third was taken to hospital with “multiple serious stab wounds,” police said in a press release Tuesday morning.

The third victim of the stabbing was in serious condition with injuries considered life-threatening when they arrived at the hospital, according to paramedics spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps. Police said on Tuesday that the victim remained in hospital.

A fourth person died in subsequent contact with Ottawa police. As a result, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate and investigated.

SIU has not yet shared details. The independent agency is investigating deaths involving police, as well as serious injuries, employees firing firearms at someone and allegations of sexual violence.

Deschamps from the paramedic service called the scene “complicated.”

The area is about six kilometers south of Parliament Hill.
