327 parking tickets issued, 91 vehicles towed in Canada Day operations

City of Ottawa bylaw officers issued a total of 483 parking tickets with a “vehicle control zone” downtown over the Canada Day long weekend, while 113 vehicles were towed, the office said Sunday morning.

Six highway encumbrance tickets and one “highway pile-up” ticket were issued. Three tickets were issued for unauthorized use of fireworks.

Three food trucks were sued for not having licenses as of Saturday.

Some statutory fines, such as those for unusual noise, shouting and idling, have been increased to $1,000 “to ensure a safe and respectful Canada Day,” the service said on Twitter ahead of the holiday.

Reminder: A motor vehicle control zone in downtown Ottawa remains in effect until at least Monday. Most of the area is bordered by Laurier Avenue, Booth Street, Wellington Street and the streets surrounding the ByWard Market and the Rideau Center area.
