4 found dead after a plane crash found near Marathon, Ont.

A plane was found to have crashed near Marathon, Ont., After concerns were expressed about its whereabouts early Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the Canadian Air Force Division, part of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), told Global News that two RCAF aircraft – CC-130H Hercules from the 435th Winnipeg-based squadron and a 424-squadron CH-146 Griffon helicopter based in the 8th Squadron Trenton, Ont. – were sent to search for the missing plane “very early” in the morning.

The crash site was southeast of Sioux Lookout and difficult to reach.

A provincial helicopter helped with the search, along with Civil Air Search and Rescue Thunder Bay, the spokesman said.

“After heading to the plane’s emergency locator, it was determined that the plane had crashed and tragically there were no survivors among the four people on the plane,” the spokesman said.

There were four people on board the plane. None of them survived.
