Police traffic checks in the Lake Country region on Canada Day removed five impaired drivers from the roads in seven hours.
Lake Country RCMP conducted two CounterAttack road checks between 7:00pm and 2:00am on July 1st. Five drivers were issued 90-day driving suspensions and their vehicles impounded for 30 days because.
Mounties say that does not include the UTV collision that left one dead and a 34-year-old man arrested for impaired operation causing death.
“Lake Country RCMP remind motorists that there is no excuse for drunk driving. Driving a motor vehicle or vessel under the influence of drugs or alcohol is an offense under the Criminal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Whether they are driving a vehicle on a highway, operating a boat on a lake or driving an all-terrain vehicle on a trail, drivers should plan ahead before they set out to organize safe driving if their summer activities involve alcohol,” said Const. Owen Hazlewood.
“Having been on highway and traffic patrol for as long as I’ve been, you come across far too many deaths and crashes that are the result of one decision, the decision to drink and drive, that could easily have been avoided,” Hazlewood added.
