7 people arrested for allegedly breaking into a construction site downtown

a crime

The construction site is for a new office space called OneCongress.

Boston police arrested seven people early Sunday morning for allegedly trespassing at the construction site of a new office building.

Boston police have charged the following people with breaking and entering: Jared Subiono, 22, of Boston; Rachel Pincus, 22, of Boston; Richard Two, 25, of Roxbury; Jiashi Tang, 20, of Roxbury; Michael Young, 25, of Somerville; Crystal Rhee, 25, of Belmont, and Jingyu Song, 22, of Boston.

Police said in a news release that around 3:05 a.m., a witness reported seeing a group of people inside the closed construction site at 1 Congress Street.

The witness told officers the group was wearing all black clothing, had masks on their faces and some were carrying backpacks, police said.

The construction site on Congress St. 1 was closed at the time, with locked gates and numerous signs around the location informing people not to enter, according to police.

Due to the hazardous conditions at the site, which is in the process of being demolished, supervisors told employees not to enter the construction site and to establish a perimeter.

Officers saw the group running along the fence line, police said. While six people tried to escape through a fence, they were apprehended without incident.

The seventh suspect was quickly found nearby and taken into custody.

It is not clear why the suspects invaded the construction site. Boston police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.

The site of the break-in is one of the addresses included in the Bullfinch Crossing mixed-use development project, which calls for the demolition of part of the Government Center garage.

The garage demolition caused problems for the MBTA and the March 26 death of 51-year-old construction worker Peter Monsini.

Crews just resumed work on the site on July 11 for the first time since it was suspended following Monsini’s death. Congress Street is now closed from New Chardon Road to Sudbury Street to accommodate the demolition. Crews hope to finish the work forcing the street closure by Labor Day.

Bulfinch Crossing is a development project by HYM Investment Group. It includes The Sudbury, a residential tower that is already open, and One Congress, a $1.3 billion office tower under construction.

All suspects are expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court soon.
