The actor behind the iconic “Man from Del Monte” commercials has died at 91 after a long battle with cancer.
Brian Jackson is best known for appearing in more than 25 commercials in 32 countries from the 1980s to the early 2000s as a fruit inspector in a white suit and panama hat who buys only the best juice.
The long-running TV campaign always uses the catchphrase: “The Del Monte man, he says yes.”
Jackson joins a select group, including the Milkybar Kid, the Cadbury’s Flake lady, the Gold Blend couple and the Volkswagen girl, who have made a lasting impression on TV viewers.
The veteran actor died peacefully at his home in London’s West End on Saturday, July 2, 2022, with his wife and youngest daughter by his side, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

His youngest daughter, Jo Jackson, said: “Advertising paid for where we lived and for my education, which I am very grateful for.
“He also bought a yellow Jaguar with the money from one of the ads because it reminded him of bananas. He was very funny, had the most amazing jokes and was a stage actor to the end.’
Born in Bolton, Lancashire in April 1931, Jackson enjoyed a long acting career on stage and screen.
Starting out as a Royal Navy photographer, he later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon and then began producing theater shows in London.

Jackson starred alongside icons Roger Moore and Ginger Rogers and appeared in numerous films, including The Return of the Pink Panther with Peter Sellers and Burt Cook and The Heroes of Telemark with Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris.
He also starred in Some like it Cool, Michael Winner’s “skin movie” debut.
Jackson has voiced and appeared in hundreds of documentaries, films and TV commercials and is a regular on BBC radio dramas.
He also played cricket with his team, Stage Cricket Club, for more than 50 years, playing his last winning match at the age of 88.
