Twitter went down this afternoon for at least tens of thousands of users worldwide.
After about half an hour, the social network appeared to be back on for some users.
Thousands of people in the UK and US have complained about web monitoring service Down Detector.
There were 29,266 complaints by 1.30pm UK time and 54,994 in the United States.
Users in other countries, including Mexico, Brazil and Italy, are also reporting problems.
When the site loads, the page displays an error sign and asks users to try again.
Most reported issues are related to accessing the Twitter app and website.
Twitter’s status page offered no information during the outage, showing the message “All systems are operational.”
Soon after, it started to come back.
It’s Twitter’s first major outage since problems in the US in February due to a technical glitch.
On October 4, 2021, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp became unavailable for a period of six to seven hours.
The outage was caused by a loss of IP routes to Facebook’s servers.
On Saturday, Elon Musk pulled out of a $44bn (£36.5bn) deal to acquire Twitter.
Tesla’s CEO had reached a deal to buy Twitter in April, but began to express doubts after allegations of spam accounts.
