A horror crash at the Commonwealth Games track cycling sent Matt Walls flying into the crowd.
A mass gathering of riders at Lee Valley VeloPark occurred during the second heat of the men’s scratch race in qualifying on day three of Birmingham 2022.
Walls required medical attention and was later taken to hospital and Isle of Man’s Matt Bostock was carried off on a stretcher, prompting thunderous cheers from the crowd.
A member of the crowd was taken away in a wheelchair, covered in blood, while a young girl was treated for a cut on her arm.
Screens were eventually placed around the area where Walls was treated.

It is the second major crash in as many days after Joe Truman was knocked out cold and suffered a suspected broken collarbone after the 70km/h impact at the velodrome.
The remainder of the velodrome session was soon called off and the venue vacated. Only one additional sprint race was scheduled before the break.

There were not enough riders standing at the end of the race to keep the score.
A statement from British Cycling read: “Following a crash in the men’s scratch, Matt Walls and Matt Bostock are being treated by medics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
“We send our best wishes to the riders and spectators involved in the incident and will provide further information when we can.”
