Doctors are set to withdraw life-support treatment on Monday for Archie Battersby, the 12-year-old boy left in a coma after suffering brain damage.
Barts Health NHS Trust, which cares for the boy, said in a letter to his parents that “all fluid infusions, medications including vasopressin will be stopped” at 2pm on August 1.
It comes after Archie’s mother, Holly Dance, called on the Health Secretary to “act immediately” to stop the treatment ending, saying it would be a “flagrant breach” of his rights.
The letter, sent to Archie’s parents over the weekend, said: “We understand that any discussions surrounding the withdrawal of Archie’s treatment are very difficult and painful. However, we want to ensure that you and your family participate as much as you wish. be.”
Ms Dance and Paul Battersby, Archie’s father, will be notified on Monday morning of how the withdrawal process should be carried out in order to “preserve Archie’s dignity”, the letter said.
“You or someone in the family may wish to lie on Archie’s bed with him or hold him in your arms if this is practically possible,” he adds.
A High Court judge decided that ending treatment was in Archie’s best interests after reviewing the evidence.
