The U.S. Marshal’s Office is offering a $ 10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of escaped prisoner Casey Cole White and the whereabouts of “missing and threatened correctional officer” Vicki White. The two disappeared on Friday after Vicki White took Casey White for a mental health assessment she told others.
“Don’t try to detain this fugitive,” US Marshal Marty Keeley said in a statement Sunday.
Casey White, 38, has been detained at Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama pending trial for murder before his disappearance. He was already serving a sentence for a series of crimes in 2015, including “home invasion, car theft and police harassment,” the marshals’ office said when he “confessed to the murder.”
White is described by the Marshals Service as 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 260 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office released the latest images of Casey White on Sunday.
Vicki White, assistant director of corrections, left prison with Casey White at 9:41 a.m. Friday, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. The two are not connected. She told other officials she would leave Casey White at the mental health court and then go to a doctor’s appointment, Singleton told a news conference on Friday.
According to Singleton, Vicki White’s patrol car was found in the mall parking lot around 11 a.m. and officers learned around 3:30 p.m. that Casey White had never been returned to custody and that no one had been able to contact with Vicki White.
Vicki White was armed with a 9mm pistol at the time of her disappearance, Singleton said, leading authorities to believe that Casey White was already armed and “extremely dangerous”.
Singleton said Friday that after a court hearing, officials confirmed that there was no planned mental health assessment. He also said that Vicki White’s decision to take the prisoner only to the courthouse was a “serious policy violation”, as someone accused of this heinous crime had to be accompanied by two deputies.
“Obviously, you know, we’re watching from all angles,” Singleton said Friday. “Did she help him escape?” This is obviously an opportunity. So we look at this as a corner of the investigation. Was she abducted on her way to the courthouse? You know, it was taken against her will? I’m watching. “
The sheriff’s office has not provided any updates other than Casey White’s new images released Sunday. The press conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday.
