The European Union is likely to propose a halt to Russian crude oil purchases from the 27-nation bloc before the end of 2022 and a ban on purchases of Russian refined petroleum products by the end of the year, according to two senior diplomats.
The proposals, due to be circulated to EU member states on Tuesday, will be at the center of the EU’s sixth package of sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine. Slovakia and Hungary will be given extra time to implement the embargo due to their particularly high dependence on Russian oil.
