Numerous motorcycle accidents have been reported, one fatal near Port Dover

Provincial police have responded to a number of motorcycle crashes as tens of thousands attended the 13th rally in Port Dover on Friday.

At least one of these collisions was fatal, and in two others a rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One crash happened just west of Port Dover around 1:14 p.m. Johns Road East. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital, where he was found dead. Their name was not disclosed. The other driver was not injured.

Police said Blueline Road, between Highway 6 and Lynn Valley Road, and St. Johns Road, between Ireland Road and Cockshutt Road, will be closed for six hours while officers investigate.

Meanwhile, another motorcyclist was taken to hospital after an accident northeast of Port Dover.

The Haldimand County OPP tweeted at 1:16 p.m. that they had closed Riverside Drive, between Rainham Road and the East Quarter Line, as they investigated. Police said it was a collision of a vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to an out-of-town hospital by Ornge Air ambulance.

Another serious collision with a motorcycle occurred south of Hagersville. In a tweet, the Haldimand County OPP said a motorcyclist had been transported from Ornge to a hospital outside the city. They added that the rider had life-changing injuries. Cheapside Road was closed between Concession 9 and Concession 11 while police investigated the site.

At 12 noon, police estimated that more than 100,000 people attended the biker rally on Friday, the 13th in Port Dover, and more are expected to arrive throughout the day.

Provincial police also said they had responded to other crashes in Port Dover involving motorcycles.

In an update to Twitter Const. Ed Sanchuk said no serious injuries had been reported in the incidents.

There were also reports of long delays due to the rally.
