The number of Tesla employees will increase next year, Elon Musk said on Saturday – despite an earlier report that he plans to lay off his company due to economic concerns.
“The total number of employees will increase, but on salary [sic] it should be relatively flat, “Musk tweeted in response to a Twitter account predicting that Tesla’s staff will increase over the next 12 months.
The multibillionaire’s tweet came two days after he told Tesla employees in an email that he had a “super bad feeling” about the state of the US economy and needed to cut about 10 percent of the electric carmaker’s workforce, Reuters reported on Friday.
Tesla representatives were not immediately available for comment.
The company employs nearly 100,000 people.
Shares of Tesla fell 9.2% on Friday.
Musk told Tesla employees earlier this week that he had a “super bad feeling” about the US economy – so much so that he would have to lay off about 10% of the workforce.
