Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo was pressured on CNN on Sunday by the Biden administration to appear “flat-footed” in its response to inflation and a shortage of baby adapters, citing higher gas prices in France at one point in defense of policies of the White House.
Raimondo blamed inflation and high gas prices for the war in Ukraine and supply chain problems during the pandemic, after Union State host Jake Tapper cited comments in July. She said inflation would be a temporary and short-term problem, but that has worried President Biden and the nation for months.
“So you’re wrong, too,” Tapper said.
“So obviously we are and the Americans are struggling with inflation. But I don’t think anyone foresaw Putin’s war in Ukraine or various other things that happened that were unexpected. I still think we will be able to control inflation. We just have to stick to it and survive it, “Raimondo told Tapper. She said the war would continue to raise prices, adding that” we can’t deny that. “

Tapper continued to pressure Raimondo on the administration’s role in contributing to inflation. He quoted economist Larry Summers as saying there was a “chance” Biden’s US bailout plan would fuel inflation by pumping up the economy with too much money.
ADMINISTRATOR OF BIDEN “DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE” FOR GAS PRICES, INFLATION AND WILL PAY FOR IT BETWEEN: REP. EMMER
“I really do not agree with this characteristic. The reality is that I was in Europe a few weeks ago. Gas in France is $ 10 a gallon. They didn’t have an American rescue plan like us. I shudder to think, Jake, what we would be living right now if we didn’t have the American rescue plan. “Remember, it was the money for vaccinations that actually allowed us to get everyone back to work,” she said.
Inflation reached 8.3% in April, a slight decline from the March consumer price index. Inflation rose to 8.5% in March, a 40-year high.
Tapper also asked Raimondo about the administration’s response to the baby formula shortage. Raimondo said she first heard about the problem in April, but said she had not responded.
Jake Tapper asked Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo why President Biden seemed “flat-footed” in his response to inflation and a shortage of formula.
Following the closure of the Abbott plant in Sturgis, Michigan, parents across the country are struggling to find and buy baby formula. Biden said on Friday that a shipment of 33 million bottles of formula was destined for the United States
“We are talking about two critical issues that directly affect the American people where they live. Where the Biden administration seems to have been caught in the act of inflation and baby formula, not to mention the record gas prices that have been affected by the war in Ukraine, no doubt, but that’s not the only reason they are so high. Why does the Biden administration seem to be constantly clearing up these issues, which are being played out just as much as experts predict, instead of rejecting them before they turn into a crisis? ”Tapper asked.

Raimondo said it was “one way to look at things” and went on to praise Biden’s leadership and decisions. Noting that she did not want to “minimize” inflation, she said: “Basically, what we have here is a stable economic recovery. And I think that’s largely due to the president’s leadership. “
The average price of gas could soon reach $ 5 per gallon and is already setting records. The average price per gallon reached $ 4.84 on Sunday, according to AAA.
