E3 may have taken down in 2022, but the show (s) must continue. Today’s big one is the annual Xbox showcase, which shares title billing with the only first-language studio to release games on the PS5 only after it was acquired by Microsoft at the cost of the presidential election.
For 95 minutes, Xbox annoys many games from all its creativity. Some were new. Others were announced in advance. And, of course, the Game Pass logo was literally everywhere. All in all, the show was … a lot. Here’s everything the Xbox showed at its big press conference in 2022, in descending order of greatness.
Starfield looks very, very big
It was beginning to look like it would never happen, but Bethesda finally showed more than eight seconds of footage for Starfield, its next open-world role-playing game. Originally announced in 2018, Starfield was originally scheduled for November 11, 2022, but was recently moved to the first half of 2023.

Hollow Knight Silksong is coming to Game Pass
After being teased for 10,000 years, Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to Team Cherry of the popular metroidvania, has acquired a sharp game trailer. Coming to Game Pass. Team Cherry did not reveal a release date, but Xbox CEO Sarah Bond said every game seen in today’s storefront should be out in the next 12 months.
Redfall’s game looks sick
Arkane unveiled Redfall, a cooperative vampire shooter, at last year’s E3 with a movie trailer. The studio finally showed the first look of public gameplay today. It certainly looks more action-oriented than the other studio games, Prey and Dishonored. Each character seems to have their own set of powers; a person can become invisible, he can destroy enemies with an electric shock, he can be burdened with debts (but he has kinetic abilities, so fair trade?). Redfall was originally scheduled for release in the summer of 2022, but along with Starfield was postponed to the first half of 2023.
Forza Motorsport will compete with the Xbox next spring
Forza Motorsport is the tougher cousin of Forza Horizon 5, the racer that briefly took over the world last fall. Instead of a wide open world, this is a more traditional arcade racer, with a focus on limited racetracks. Developer Turn 10 Studios says it’s “the most technically advanced racing game ever made.” Based on these visualizations that were depicted in the engine … yes, yes, I can’t argue! Coming out next spring for Xbox and PC.
Forza Horizon 5 gets an extension for Hot Wheels
That. It seems. Bananas !!! Forza Horizon 5 was already one of the most fun racing games around. The Hot Wheels extension, which seems to include some really bending reality loop-de-loops, is even more bananas. Available July 19, 2022
Naraka Bladepoint is coming to Xbox
The royal battle for third-party action, originally only available on PC, is coming to the Xbox. It is available on June 23, 2022 and will include a cross game, plus it will start with a campaign.
Obsidian makes a detective game
Obsidian has more iron in the fire than a blacksmith. The revered RPG studio is also developing Pentiment, a two-dimensional adventure game with a focus on detective gameplay and painting style. The opening shots made it look a bit like Disco Elysium: Renaissance Faire Edition. Released in November.
The full edition of Grounded will be released in September
Also from Obsidian: Grounded, the studio, taking over Honey I Shrunk the Kids, will be fully released in September. Obsidian did not share a specific date. The game has been in early access for some time. Lots of bugs (literally because you’re really small, which makes insects … you know what? It doesn’t matter).
Persona comes in Xbox
Historically, Persona, the Atlus series of 700-hour role-playing games cannot be played on the Xbox. This is changing with the upcoming editions of Persona 3, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal, the last of which is available on October 21. (The other two have no dates.)
Hideo Kojima makes a game for Xbox
Hideo Kojima, the leading creative figure behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, is developing a game for the Xbox. It is reported that it will use the Xbox raids on cloud technology. Kojima did not reveal details about the game. Last week, rumors surrounding Overdose, a game being developed by Kojima, set fire to the rumor mill. Kojima himself reportedly tried to get the site that originally published the news to download the article.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is more like A Plague Tale
Who knew that such a rough game could be so wonderful? Despite all the rats and guts, the stealth adventure game Asobo A Plague Tale: Requiem is easily one of the most poignant games on the horizon. Coming out this year.
Flintlock is a good looking action game
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a third-person action game with magic, rifles, axes and the best weapon of all: double jumping. However, unfortunately, you have to fight wild turkeys, so it will probably be difficult AF. It is planned for 2023.
Contempt is finally coming out
Scorn, a horror game that has been postponed twice, finally has a release date: October 21, 2022. Based on the psychologically devastating work of art by HR Giger, Scorn is first-person, meaning it is a factory for walking nightmares. I’m already trembling!
Microsoft Flight Sim gets the Halo pelicans
You can no longer (officially) fly a pelican in Halo Infinite, but you can in Microsoft Flight Sim. Microsoft has made the typical futuristic launch vehicle available for Flight Sim with free content release today. Also: The game gets helicopters.
Overwatch 2 launches early access in the fall

Give me something told by Shohreh Agdashlu from Mass Effect and you will catch my attention. So, yes, the turn-based strategy game Ara caught my attention. But I will keep my judgment until the studio reveals the gameplay.
The Elder Scrolls Online gets the High Isle extension
There is no news about Elder Scrolls VI, but MMO Elder Scroll gets a DLC based on High Isle, which Pete Hines of Bethesda noted has not been seen in an Elder Scrolls game before. Released June 21, 2022 for Xbox and PC.
Fallout 76 gets an extension for Pittsburgh
Fallout 76 – which Kotaku recently announced was developed in severe crisis conditions – gets a new area in September. The action takes place in The Pitt, which is a version of Pittsburgh in the Fallout universe.
Sea of Thieves gets a new season next month

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is an atmospheric action platformer with side-scrolling. However, this is not one of the 100 Limbo-like that are currently being developed, and it seems to be at a faster pace than the melancholy conscientious ones that define this subgenre.
