A 6-year-old British student died in a swimming pool at a Mallorca hotel

A six-year-old boy has died after having difficulty in a swimming pool at a hotel in Mallorca.

Corey Ohi of Belfast was spotted drowning in the pool at an unnamed hotel in Sa Coma on Thursday.

Several ambulances, local police and the Guardia Civil rushed to the scene around 5pm and paramedics were able to revive the young man after doing CPR for almost half an hour, according to Diario de Mallorca.

He was taken to a hospital in the capital of the island of Palma, where he remained in the intensive care unit for three days before dying on Sunday.

The child is said to have been on holiday with his family at a hotel in Sant Lorenc de Cardassar, a short drive from the Love Island villa.

Confirming his death, a relative wrote on Facebook: “We as a family want to inform you that King Corey has received his wings.

“The family could not cope without all your support, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your kind donations, now we must focus on bringing him home.

“Please continue to pray for the family to gather strength for the next few weeks.”

Corey was a scout in the 45th Belfast Scout Group, which meets at Immanuel Church in Ardoyn, Ireland.

Paying tribute, the church wrote on Facebook: “Tonight the leaders of the 45th Belfast Scout Group, which is meeting in Immanuel, received the heartbreaking news that Corey, a much-loved member of the Beaver section, has died in a tragic accident.

“Please keep the Ohi family in your thoughts and prayers during this very sad and difficult time.”

Belfast’s 45th Scout Group wrote: “This is extremely sad news and the thoughts and prayers of everyone in the 45th Group are with his family at this heartbreaking moment.

“Corey will be fondly remembered by his beaver leaders as funny, always smiling and full of enthusiasm. We will miss him so much.

“The parents of the beavers have already been informed. Our district commissioner has kindly offered pastoral support, so if you think a leader or young person would like to take advantage of this, please let me know. ”

Shankill Junior Football Club added: “Shankill Juniors would like to send our condolences to the player for 2014. Colton Oggy, Stephen, Alana and the whole circle of Aughey’s family for the death of young Corey. Rest easy. ”

It comes just weeks after a 19-month-old British child drowned in a private swimming pool in Aix-en-Provence.
