LEFERTS GARDENS PROSPECTUS, Brooklyn (WABC) – An MTA bus driver was brutally stabbed by a passenger in Brooklyn.
It happened around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday near Ocean and Flatbush Boulevards in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens section.
The bus operator drove a shuttle bus Q, which picked up passengers only at Q stations, where there was no subway due to repairs at night.
Police said the 39-year-old driver was confronted by a man trying to get on his bus through the back door between stops.
The driver saw what had happened, stopped the bus and drove away the suspects.
The suspect returned with a knife and stabbed the driver in the abdomen and stabbed him in the face, cutting him over the eye.
He was taken to Brooklyn New York Presbyterian Methodist Hospital in stable condition. He is expected to survive.
The attacker, a 30-year-old man, fled the scene on Empire Boulevard. For now, he remains on the run.
TWU issued a statement on the attack, saying: “This is an ordinary working-class man who did business in the city, making sure people could get to where they needed to go when the subway stopped, and he he was subjected to an unprovoked and terrible attack. This criminal must be caught and given the maximum penalty according to the law. “
