A gun owner from Texas has defended himself and another teenage woman who allegedly tried to rob them with a gun in Austin, Texas last week, police said.

17-year-old Jayline Reed is accused of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Reed had already been convicted of a series of robberies in 2021. Police said he was released from juvenile custody on May 27 with an ankle monitor, which he cut off two days later. Reed then committed a series of nine robberies in five days, police said.

Reed reportedly approached the man and woman shortly after they got out of a vehicle in which police said it contained three other suspects.

“The surveillance video was taken by Reed as he got out of the vehicle and approached a black victim, a man and a black woman,” police said. “Reed pulled out a gun and robbed the victim’s backpack. Meanwhile, the other suspects in the car moved forward and waited for Reed. Reed moved to the escape car as he aimed his pistol at the woman. The male victim pulled out his firearm and fired several shots at Reed and those at the Chevy Malibu in self-defense. “

The victim hit Reed in the leg.

Police found Reed and the other three suspects shortly afterwards and placed a turnstile on Reed’s feet before taking him to the hospital. Authorities found a number of stolen items at the scene, including guns.

Police released photos of Reed and two of his accomplices, Andre Harris and Paul Rossum, both 18 years old. However, the fourth suspect was a minor.

Police said the four suspects committed each of the robberies in a similar manner.

“All nine recent robberies were committed in a similar manner during the day,” APD reported. “One suspect will get out of the vehicle and then enter a busy business area. The other suspects in the car will also identify potential “targets”. Once a person is identified, the suspects approach them, point a gun and demand their belongings. In several cases, the victims received head injuries after being “killed with a pistol” by a group of men. “
