A huge cannabis farm was found scattered in 17 rooms of a former nursing home.
Merseyside police said the cannabis farm arrested by Alexandra Road officials was “one of the largest and most sophisticated cannabis farms found in Southport in recent years.” The police operation took place in the former nursing home on Thursday, May 19, and now the police are trying to find the culprits.
Officials found 1,277 cannabis plants scattered in 17 rooms, along with equipment that was taken for destruction.

Matt Brown, head of the Merseyside Cannabis Disassembly Team, said: “Thanks to the vigilance of our staff, an extremely large cannabis farm no longer puts the Southport community at risk of fire and flood, violence and criminal exploitation. We are now conducting extensive investigations to find the culprits.
“No law-abiding person wants to live next door to such deadly traps, and we are doing everything we can to make the streets safer. Keep your eyes, ears and nose open for signs that cannabis is grown where you live and work, and we will continue to take action. All the information helps the work we do, so let us know and we will be there. ”

A post on Sefton’s Facebook page said, “Before anyone asks, ‘Is this still there?’ … Cannabis and equipment have been taken for destruction.” Unused compost left by producers is donated to a local charity for good use.
“The Southport neighborhood team will continue to harass and hinder those who are trying to profit from the cultivation and sale of cannabis and Class A drugs, as well as the exploitation of others to achieve this in the neighborhood.”
